DEPARTMENTAL COUNCIL

Departmental Council is the governing body of the Department with authority to make decision on matters relating to academic planning, administration, operation, and procedural policies. The membership of the Departmental Council consists of:

  • all faculty members
  • all support staff members
  • 12 students representatives (4 each from second-, third-, and fourth-years) and
  • two graduate student representatives.

CURRICULUM COMMITTEE

Curriculum Committee is a standing committee of the Departmental Council and consists of the Chair, the Program Directors, and all Stream Coordinators. Curriculum Committee is responsible for curriculum planning and development.

ACADEMIC STREAMS

Academic streams are responsible for the development of undergraduate courses that fall into the area of the appropriate academic stream. Currently the Department has the following academic streams:

  • Biomedical Engineering Stream
  • Computer Software Stream
  • Communication and Signal Processing Stream
  • Capstone Design Projects
  • Controls and Robotics Stream
  • Computer Hardware Stream
  • Energy Systems Stream
  • Electromagnetic Stream
  • Microsystems Stream

DEPARTMENTAL HIRING COMMITTEE (DHC)

DHC is responsible for recruitment and recommendation for hiring of limited-term and tenure-stream faculty. DHC consists of seven members: the Chair, four elected members, plus one member appointed by the Chair. These six members select an additional faculty member before the election of the chair of the committee. No more than one probationary faculty member may serve on the DHC, and only when elected, not appointed, and that person may not be in his or her first year of service.

DEPARTMENTAL EVALUATION COMMITTEE (DEC)

DEC is responsible the evaluation of probationary faculty members. DEC consists of five members: the Chair, three elected members, plus one appointed by the Chair. DEC members are all tenure-stream faculty members of the Department.
